About

Most about pages are dry as crackers.  No one really likes crackers.  Think about it - they're really just little pieces of nothing designed to hold delicious flavors you'd otherwise have to eat with your fingers (and that would make your mother yell at you - wouldn't she?)

We don't do boring about sections.  We drink enough coffee everyday, we can't risk having to drink more to get through an about section.  Truly - we think of it as a public service.

So now that you know your about section will always be engaging (slightly less rambling than ours - Amy lets me write our site - you'll get the professionals.) It's time for us to tell you all about us!

Who We Are…

1079 Creative Solutions is a creative firm.  That means we do everything from print materials to websites, branding, press releases and copywriting.  We can build you a brand AND let people know who you are in a concise, clear and visually appealing way.

How it All Began…

Once upon a time there was a woman (Amy) who wrote until her pen dried up.  (Then she got a new pen and kept on going).  She wrote words that inspired people, made them feel joy, sadness, and everything in between.  She wrote for other people, she wrote for herself, she just wrote and wrote and wrote.

A few hundred miles North of Amy (in an igloo with a moose) was a woman (Melle) who made things. She would make things out of clay, out of plaster, or things she found on the side of the road.  Sometimes, she would make things on the computer and other times using a big paintbrush or a pencil.

After a few years of freelance illustrating, Melle started getting more and more requests for promotional materials like websites and business cards.  She’d had the training to provide these, but had never considered the possibility of freelancing for any of those things.  Soon, her side job had grown into something much larger.

So…she filled herself with coffee and grew her business.

A few hundred miles south, Amy was writing a novel.  Her writing had blossomed from articles in magazines and shorter pieces here and there into a great non-fiction book she was anxiously awaiting the release of.  It was this book which would help the two cross paths.

Just before the book release, Amy got in touch with Melle to help her with some beautification of promotional materials.  Melle made Amy laugh until coffee came out of her nose and Amy gave Melle her book to read, which made Melle cry on a train.  The two were instant friends.

A few hundred miles of traveling, one smelly bus, a bunch of organic wine, some stomach wrenching laughter and a weekend was all it took to convince these two they needed to join forces.  Armed with coffee, pens, computers and some killer work ethic these two have grown and molded 1079 into a thriving creative firm that offers all the services a small business needs to grow their presence.

Today, Amy and Melle still do the majority of the work, but they enjoy the services of a few other freelancers who help out from time to time when the opportunity arises.  It gives them a warm snuggly feeling to help designers, writers, artists and other freelancers a chance to get their feet wet without having to work for free. (It should give you a snuggly feeling too that by shopping with them you’re part of that.)

What’s Our Mission?

As you can likely tell if you read the “How we Started” section, we’re not pretentious, we’re not riddled with contracts, loops and hurdles.  We don’t believe your life needs to be harder than it is.  We understand the challenges of being a small business and all we really want is to share our skills so you can succeed. We’re two friends who run a small business with a set of skills that complement each other.

So our mission? It’s this….

We will work tirelessly to help you succeed.  It takes an incredible amount of courage and effort to run a small business and we celebrate you for it.  We will help you grow, reach new heights of success and help you let people know who you are and what you do in the most clear and concise manner possible.

Our mission is to make small businesses thrive.

FAQ's

There are only two big FAQ's we get from time to time, so here they are:

1. How do you say "Melle"? Hint: It rhymes with "Bell" (It's also a small town in Germany and the maker of Mentos.)

2.  What does 1079 stand for? Absolutely nothing.  It was quite arbitrary and has no real significance what-so-ever except we love it!
